Milford Farmers Market: Winter Edition

A successful late-summer, early-fall run has inspired interest in a winter Milford Farmers Market with selected dates.

A successful run through the late summer and early fall has inspired several Milford Farmers Market vendors to extend the event to selected dates in November and December.

The winter market would be held inside the Milford Youth Center building, in the gymnasium. The tentative dates are Saturdays, on Nov. 9 and 23, and Dec. 7 and 14. The time would be the same: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The vendors will pay a fee for rental to the Milford Youth Commission, which oversees the building. The fee is now being negotiated, said David Morganelli, a founder of the Milford Farmers Market.

The market began with a sellout on Aug. 24, and continues through this Saturday's market. The business was strong enough to attract new vendors through the late summer, Morganelli said.

The winter market would be aimed less at farms and produce and more at people who make foods and products, including baked items, jams and jellies, preserves and other items. So far, Buzz 10 Honey of Medway and Sweet Treats, a bakery, have expressed interest in the winter market, Morganelli said. Others are expected once the details are finalized.

Next year, the spring and summer market is expected to start up again in May, Morganelli said. The location may change. For the initial year, the location was beside Milford Town Hall.
