Community Unites to Support Sick Milford Teen

A telethon has been organized for Coleman Candalerio, who is battling Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and Protein Losing Enteropathy.

Residents and businesses in Milford are working together to help a local teen who is battling a rare form of heart disease.

Coleman Candalerio, 17, of Milford is battling Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a form of congenital heart disease in which the left ventricle does not develop. He was diagnosed with shortly after his born, and, as part of treatment, has undergone three open heart surgeries and other corrective procedures. The teen also has Protein Losing Enteropathy, a result of one of his surgeries.

But neighbors are helping out, according to his mother, Kathy Vaughn Candelario. In addition to a GoFundMe.com account set up to raise funds for Coleman's treatment, several upcoming events are planned to help support the teen, from haircut proceeds to a telethon which can be found below. A Facebook page, "I Believe - A Telethon for Coleman Candelario," has also been set up.
