Pequots Hire PR firm to Mitigate Negative Publicity

TCR091312-01 of 06--Approves a Tribal Media Plan. [Vote: 7 YES (Butler, Dames, Colebut-Jackson, Thomas, Whipple, Colebut-Ingram, Colebut)]. WHEREAS, the Mission Statement of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation pursuant to TCR022499-01 states,“...the ultimate goal is to protect and advance the Sovereign Rights of the Tribal Nation in order to build and preserve a cultural, social and economic foundation that can never be undermined or destroyed.”; and WHEREAS, the Mission Statement of the Tribal Council, as amended pursuant to TCR011410-03, is to preserve, protect and advance the Mission Statement of the Tribe for the benefit of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation; and WHEREAS, the Tribe is a regular recipient of bad press, which may be negatively impacting its success; and WHEREAS, the Tribal Council mandates that any internal departments responsible for managing the Tribe’s image will receive adequate resources necessary to accomplish same; and WHEREAS, the Tribal Council wishes to implement a strategic and aggressive Tribal Public Relations Campaign to communicate the positive actions of the Tribe to the general public, part of which will require Tribal Councilors to actively participate in Social Media training; and WHEREAS, Tribal Council is willing to take whatever steps may be necessary in order to achieve this goal; and, WHEREAS, "XYZ" Communications has proposed a multi-phased Tribal Media Plan the first Phase which consists of print advertising creative development design copying and production; the second Phase will consist of public and community relations social media; third Phase will consist of radio creative and production for radio spots (Exhibit A); and WHEREAS, a Tribal Media Campaign focused on improving the Tribe’s professional image may mitigate the impact of negative publicity and/or build/improve goodwill among patrons/guests, employees, the Tribal Community and local communities;
