Margaret Myatt – Can You Hear Me? What Did You Say? Hearing Loss Issues and Hearing Assistive Technology
Have you found yourself struggling to hear a loved one? Do
you say, “What?” or, “Say that again?” Or are you repeating sentences for a
hard-of-hearing friend? You are not alone. At least 17 percent of adults in the
United States,
more than 36 million, report some degree of hearing loss. "Hard-of-hearing"
issues are experienced by many children early in their lives. Think of it: one
in six people around you struggle every day to hear simple sentences. Hearing
loss is the third most common major public physical health issue after
arthritis and heart disease. Hearing
loss challenges our ability to cope; to socialize with friends and family; and to communicate professionally within the work force.
Learn more about these issues and what resources can help
you and your friends and loved ones.
Margaret Myatt, long time Milford
resident, has worn hearing aids since age 30, and recently she has become
active in the Central Massachusetts chapter of
the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). She serves on the chapter’s steering committee and has been certified as an
advocate for Hearing Assistive Technology by the HLAA. She is a member of the
Milford Commission on Disability.
Myatt will present information about hearing loss,
demonstrate assistive technology available at low cost, offer tips on finding a
hearing professional, and share valuable resources in the region for support.
