CHRISTOPHER DALEY: The Sacco – Vanzetti Case Revisited

Christopher Daley begins the
first of three lectures this fall with an historical presentation of a very
popular subject with area residents – the Sacco and Vanzetti case.  Nicola Sacco settled and worked in Milford after emigrating from Italy and the presiding judge,
Webster Thayer, was a native of Blackstone and a descendant of Ferdinando
Thayer, one of the first English settlers of Mendon. The presentation begins at
7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th in the Granite and Quarry Rooms of the
Milford Town Library.

Daley chronicles the saga of the
two immigrant Italian anarchists, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. The
story begins with the robberies in Bridgewater
and Braintree, Massachusetts
and then the famous trial at Dedham
is examined and the seven years of attempts to get a new trial are recounted.
Lastly the worldwide protests and demonstrations will be discussed and then the
finally the last days of Sacco and Vanzetti will be highlighted with a vivid
description of their sentencing and execution.

The Sacco – Vanzetti Revisited
lecture slide presentation contains period photographs of all the major players
in the case, the locations of the robberies, the courthouse, massive demonstrations,
Charlestown State Prison and of the funeral procession of Sacco and Vanzetti.
Many of these photographs are rare and are not published anywhere. There are
also many photographs of locations as they appear today.
