Who Makes the Best Sandwich?

Our inaugural Best of Patch contest kicks off this week with something everyone loves: Sandwiches.

We want you to tell us what your favorite sandwich place in town is.

Here are some of our favorite places, but if we're leaving one off of the list, please let us know in the comments and we'll add it:

Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

So tell us what your favorite place is to grab a sandwich. And don't forget to tell us in the comments below why.

You can also weigh in on the best places for sandwiches in and

Dee, you gotta try it at gene's. they have the best sandwiches by far.
Mary MacDonald (Editor) February 27, 2012 at 02:26 PM
Thanks, Mark. The links are taking you to the Milford Patch directory of businesses. Once you're there, you can see the information, write a review, rate the business, etc. A lot of them have links to their websites too, which have menus.

I LOVE to eat, so I feel VERY qualified to answer this question. When mentioning best sandwiches in Milford, you have to startwith the italian of faccacia at Olivas and the porketta at Gene's variety. BUT I love my BBQ, so I would say the best was the beef brisket or the pulled chicken at Adirondack Smokehouse. Its where the old fish market was across from Gasco(the old Mobico). Dont forget to get the mash potatoes as a side, she even has a version with horseradish in them! A lot of people I know never knew this place was there but after they go, they always tell me how great it was and how they'll be back.

If a burger is considered a sandwich, then the Tradesman by a mile, if you mean a sub, then Genes.
Mary MacDonald (Editor) February 27, 2012 at 06:44 PM
I think the category "sandwich" includes both burgers and subs, so you'll have to pick...

The Burgers at the Tradesman ROCK!!!!!
Mary MacDonald (Editor) February 27, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Thank you to everyone who has voted so far, a big turnout for halfway through the day. Maybe the town election will be like this..! Anyway, make sure, if you feel strongly, you post a review on the site of the sandwich maker. Because the winner is partly going to be chosen based on the reviews on the Patch Places site. Get to that by clicking the live link above the poll.

Sandwich Clarification: a burger is not a sandwich, and I am sorry I spread that bit of misinformation earlier. A sub is a sandwich, however.

I voted and then viewed the results and was delighted to find that for once in my life (and I know it could still change, but let me enjoy this!) I was with the majority! I love Oliva's. But I must say (as I couldn't really in my review) that Gene's is also delicious, with incredibly nice people. Really almost a TIE, to my mind.

All the food at the Tradesman is delicious!!!
cdigello February 28, 2012 at 03:04 AM
the mini guinney at the tradesman blows away the italian from genes.. you want good food whether a sandwich or anything else the tradesman is the place! you wont be disapointed!
Cassandra February 28, 2012 at 11:52 AM
The Paisan! Gene's all the way....
Brady's Dad February 28, 2012 at 01:09 PM
The Tradesman is a hidden jewel for lunch. Sit down and have a Mtn. of a Burger or a Philly Steak - Cheese sandwich that is as good or better than the ones in Philly. Home made Specials are daily and just as good.Genes is great too, but not always able to cure your taste BUDS. Brady's Dad...

Karla February 29, 2012 at 05:24 PM
I absolutely LOVE the Mediterranean at Gene's variety!!! It is the best sub I have ever had!!! Also the people they work there are great!
Kristin February 29, 2012 at 09:45 PM
The Tradesman has the BEST grilled cheese ever as well as great pizza, buffalo chicken sandwiches, chicken parm subs and T-rolls. You can’t go wrong with eatin at the T :-)
MARK March 01, 2012 at 03:06 AM
The tradesman has great food and great subs. Always consistent, never a had bad meal there. Would give it a high recommendation. My favs are the italian sub and the pastrami and swiss.
jcfusion March 01, 2012 at 10:54 PM
Go to the Tradesman for a great sandwich. And while you're there try the "T" Rolls, AMAZING!!!
Ray Fellows March 02, 2012 at 03:17 AM
This chain has become a joke. I bet all these votes for the Tradesman are newly registered or first time posters. It was a nice idea that was hijacked.
SomeoneOrSomething March 02, 2012 at 03:55 AM
How come I see so little votes for Oliva's Market? omnomnomnomnom
Mary MacDonald (Editor) March 02, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I am suspecting a free beer to all who post? I'll have to ask the owner next time I see him. Polls close at 9 a.m. for this election, so vote now if you haven't already.
plp March 02, 2012 at 12:55 PM
I didn't see a stipulation that said you had to be a veteran poster or not a new reader of the patch to vote or comment. If you have a different opinion of the food at the tradesman than these posters you're certainly entitled to it. I see no reason to disparage the owner or peoples opinions whose are different than yours. Clearly the people who have eaten there enjoyed it. I know I have.
Mary MacDonald (Editor) March 02, 2012 at 02:17 PM
No, in fact we wanted people to comment, and tell us which sandwich they like best. Sorry if I offended, I know the owner and meant my comment as a joke. The only thing we ask in these polls is not to vote twice. Comments should be encouraged, and if more people signed on to praise the Tradesman, all the better. Don't forget to post your comments to the Tradesman's business listing on Patch as a review, that way when people search for the business name, the good review pops up.
ERA March 02, 2012 at 02:23 PM
Dear Ray, some of us have been Patch followers for some time, and registered for some time, we just choose to be selective with our comments. @ Mary, I have to say Mary I am disappointed that you would suggest bribery for a sandwich poll? Especially one that doesn't have any prize that I know of? I know I personally haven't been offered any free incentives by the owner to vote in this poll. I just happen to be a fan of the food from the Tradesman, which just so happens to be delicious.
Mary MacDonald (Editor) March 02, 2012 at 02:27 PM
I agree, and in retrospect I shouldn't have said that. I meant it as a joke. (see my post below)
Ray Fellows March 02, 2012 at 03:37 PM
I never said once the food wasnt good a The Tradesman but it's certainly not the best in Milford. My suggestion wasnt to disparage people who like the Tradesman, it alluded to my opinion that a few people were creating new identities to manipulate the vote totals. My experience is people get sensitive when you are correct. As a 20 year resident of Milford, my family has eaten at the Tradesman quite a few times. But to have the totals and comments be this out of proportion makes me pause and question the validity of the poll. If I randomly asked twenty people on the Milford street where they went out to dinner in the last week, I highly doubt 15 would say the Tradesman Sorry if I offended anyones delicate sensibilities but I dont just believe everything I read, I actually think about it.
