5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 12

The Portuguese Picnic is coming up soon.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Save the date: t an annual celebration of the music, food and dance of Portuguese culture will be July 21 and 22.

2. 2012 Boys State Representatives are: Michael Tarolli, Michael Shea, Michael Tracy, Samuel Krovocheck and James Mullahoo. Their involvement is sponsored by the American Legion Post 59.

3. A reminder: if you have an automated sprinkler system, or use a hand-placed sprinkler to water plants and lawns, you need to put them temporarily on hold. and hand-held watering is the only type allowed until further notice.

4. DoSomething.org and Staples have teemed up with recording artist Bella Thorne for the 5th annual Staples for Students national school supply drive, to help kids in need. Collect school supplies and drop them off at now through Sept. 15. All of the supplies and donations locally will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest.

5. will participate in a l for Boston Children's Hospital. Stop by the restaurant July 21 and purchase a lemonade. All of the proceeds will go to the hospital.
