5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 25

The Red and White Hockey Game, pitting players against Milford Public Schools staff and teachers, will be this weekend in Marlborough.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The annual Red and White Hockey Game, which pits varsity Milford Hockey player against their teachers and coaches, will be Sunday at New England Sports Center in Marlborough. All money raised helps the hockey program. The cost is just $5 for adults/$3 for students.

2. The deadline for ordering a Milford High School yearbook with a student name imprint is today. Order forms and checks need to be handed to Mrs. Tebbetts or Mr. Calzolaio by the end of the school day, according to an announcement on the website. 3. Appointments are now being taken at the Milford Town Library for senior citizens and low income individuals who need help with tax preparation. The AARP Tax Assistance Program begins on Feb. 9, and continues through March 30. Please call the library’s Information Desk at 508-473-2145, ext 219 to schedule an appointment.

4. A blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross will be at Gold's Gym from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, and you'll take away a pound of coffee for your effort to the cause.

5. Kohl's Department Stores nationwide will kick off nominations for its "Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program" on Feb. 1. Nominations for kids ages 6 to 18 will be accepted from Feb. 1 through March 15 at kohlskids.com, and nominators must be 21 years or older. Through the program, Kohl’s will award more than 2,300 young volunteers more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes.
