5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 31

Milford had nearly a foot of snow fall on Saturday, far more than initially forecast.

1. How much snow did Milford get on Saturday? According to the National Weather Service, Milford had 11 inches recorded, as did several surrounding towns. That's among the highest amounts recorded for the storm.

2. Milford Community School Use program has announced its winter lineup of adult recreational and educational classes. Check out some of the options. The registration night is Jan. 16 at Milford High School.

3. Milford Town Hall and the Milford Senior Center will close early today, at 1 p.m., for the New Year's holiday. All town offices, as well as state and federal offices, will be closed Tuesday for New Year's Day.

4. One of the programs for elementary-aged children through Milford Community School Use is Girl Power, which teaches girls fun activities that build self confidence, including kickboxing. See the announcement for more details. Registration deadline is Thursday.

5. Attention motorcyclists: According to a press release from the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association, Vega Helmet Corp. has announced that it is recalling more than 30,000 model XTS Helmets after testing found that some did not meet crash protection safety standards. VXTS half-helmets in sizes Large, Extra Large, and XX Large produced between May 2011 and October 2012 are subject to the recall.
