WATCH IT! Morganelli Speaks Regarding Casino's Effects on Town Finances

Lifelong Milfordian and attorney David Morganelli recently explained why Milford has no need for casino revenue.

Casino-Free Milford recently held a Citizens Forum on the Casino in Town Hall, which featured a number of special guest speakers. Milford resident and attorney David Morganelli shared his opinions regarding the casino’s effects on the town’s finances and our property taxes as a concerned citizen during the recent Citizens Forum.

"A casino is not worth sacrificing our quality of life," Morganelli proclaimed during his presentation.

Information highlighted in his presentation included:

  • Milford's finances are in excellent shape. Per Morganelli, "We will never have a Proposition 2 1/2 override in this town. We continue to pay all our debts as they come due, and without the casino, we will be able to pay for Milford Pond and Woodland School ... and any other capital projects you can think of."
  • The $25 million promised by Foxwoods is not absolutely guaranteed because it is unsecured.
  • Because of other expected draws on the Foxwoods revenue (such as collective bargaining agreements), we would be lucky to see 25% of the revenue used to reduce property taxes. This would amount to only $450 per homeowner.
  • The Host Community Agreement includes many flawed provisions.
  • If our quality of life here in Milford tanks due to the impacts of a casino in town, it is likely that existing corporations and employers will leave town.
