THINK ABOUT IT! Casino Will Impact Property Values, Traffic
Decreased property values and increased traffic are worrisome impacts of the casino proposal. What is Milford's contingency plan if expectations are proven wrong?
Dear Members of the Milford community:
There are several items associated with the proposed Foxwoods Casino that I am very worried about.
First being, the effect on property values. A property is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. If people do not wish to move to Milford because of a casino, how is the value not hurt? Current home prices have already decreased to their late 1990's values. If possible buyers are only enticed to buy your home if the price is equivalent to mid-1980's values, that hurts everyone. Personally, I would NOT purchase a home with a casino in town. Similarly to when I bought in Milford back in 1987, I would not buy in other towns which had issues that I did not want. Will this push recently purchased homes into foreclosure because the homes cannot be sold without a loss?

The second issue I have an issue with is the traffic on the side roads. Try commuting on route 495 past the Mass Pike or route 290 during rush hours. Drivers either attempt to bypass the area of congestion or try to avoid travelling in those areas during rush hour. When is rush hour for the casino? Always, that makes trying to change your commute time rather difficult.
Lastly, what is Milford's contingency plan if expectations are proven wrong?
