TONIGHT: Citizens Forum on the Casino at 7:00 p.m. in Upper Town Hall

Former State Representative Marie Parente urges all Milford residents to attend the Citizens Forum on the Casino this Wednesday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m. in Upper Town hall.

Dear Fellow Citizens of Milford:

On November 19th, you will have an opportunity to vote on the most serious challenge to Milford’s fiscal future, as well as its healthy and orderly growth, we have confronted in our lifetimes. The outcome of this special election will determine whether Milford is considered by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for the one casino license to be awarded to one of the three bidders in the eastern region of the state.

Having seen a copy of the ballot, I am concerned that you should have full disclosure regarding its contents. The first section asks you to check a “yes” or “no” box. The balance of the lengthy ballot describes the legal obligations agreed upon by Foxwoods MA and the Town of Milford through actions taken by the majority members of the Milford Board of Selectmen.

Your vote will be your legacy to your children and generations to come.

Therefore, it would be helpful to you and our children and their children to understand fully the contents of the agreement before you choose to vote to endorse or reject the casino complex. You can have your questions answered on Wednesday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m. in Upper Town Hall during the Citizens Forum on the Casino sponsored by Casino-Free Milford.

On November 19th, your vote on the mammoth gambling complex will tell future Milford taxpayers you cared enough to vote. Mark your calendars now for October 30th and November 19th. Your attendance on October 30th and your vote on November 19th will be the “shots” heard around the state!
