NORWELL and MILLIS, MA, ISSUED FEBRUARY 3, 2014…Acella Construction Corporation (www.acellaconstruction.com), a leader in construction services for the educational, corporate and institutional markets since 2003, today announced that Millis, MA resident George (Skip) Chabot, former President of Bowdoin Construction, will join Acella as its Vice President/General Manager.

In this role, he will assist Acella Construction Corporation President Dave Dirubbo in a number of key areas, including business development and overall strategy for growth.

Chabot comes to Acella after having served as President of the Needham, MA Bowdoin Construction Corporation, one of the region’s larger general contracting/construction management firms, for 21 years. Under Chabot’s guidance, the company grew from $10 million to $60 million in annual sales, and over the term of his Presidency (from 1992 to 2013), put in place more than $900,000,000 of new construction in retail, restaurants, hospitality, medical, commercial and industrial markets. As President of the firm for 21 years, he oversaw the day to day activities of the firm, provided and monitored short and long-term company goals and forecasts, and supervised 45 employees including laborers, superintendents, engineers, project managers and executives.

He was, in fact, one of the original partners of the company, which was originally affiliated with the Beacon Companies. Beacon was the firm which built Rowe’s Wharf and Center Plaza and Bowdoin was spun off as an offshoot to handle the build-out work for tenants and eventually grew into its own general contracting/construction management firm.  Chabot also served as Bowdoin’s Executive Vice-President from 1989 to 1992 before becoming President; he also served as Vice President of Operations, and as a Senior Project Manager and Chief Estimator.

The Saugus, MA native earned his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, and earned an Advanced Construction Management designation from Wentworth Institute, Boston.  He also studied Construction Law at Northeastern University. For many years, he has been a member of the industry association ABC (Association of Builders and Contractors).

Outside the work environment, he volunteers his time with several organizations, the Breast Cancer Society and Unlimited Possibilities (in New Hampshire). The father of two, in his spare time, enjoys golfing, hockey, tennis, mountain climbing and hiking.

Dave Dirubbo, President of Acella Construction, said, “We feel very fortunate to be able to bring in someone with Skip’s talent and industry knowledge. He built a well-respected, very successful firm with a strong reputation, and is one of the industry’s most respected leaders. With his knowledge and expertise, I know that he will be a tremendous asset to our clients and to our team as we continue to expand. Skip is known for his integrity, industry knowledge and work ethic. We are so pleased to welcome him to our Acella family.”

Skip Chabot said, “Within weeks of retiring from Bowdoin I began to realize how much I really missed the industry and the people.  I decided that I still wanted to continue to make a contribution to the industry which has been my life for so many years. I have always enjoyed the fast pace  of the construction business, and consider myself a hands-on person and that is what so intriged me about Acella and the opportunity that David offered me.”
