Suffolk Downs Casino to get East Boston Vote Only

The city leaders had a choice of making it a city-wide vote, or just East Boston.

The Boston City Council has voted to allow East Boston residents only to decide whether the proposed Suffolk Downs casino should move forward.

The vote was 12-1 Wednesday, according to the Boston Globe.

The casino proposed for the current Suffolk Downs horse racing site is one of three in the greater Boston region competing for a single state license.

Milford's Foxwoods Massachusetts proposal also is an applicant for that license.

The vote in East Boston will take place on Nov. 5.
