Want to send someone else out to pick out your groceries? Now you can.

The Milford Stop and Shop last week launched pick up service, allowing customers to shop online then drive up to collect the packed bags.

The service, offered through its partner Peapod, doesn't cost extra. And no tips either. Peapod has its shoppers fill out the orders, and select produce and meats, for example. The goods are then placed into temperature-controlled containers.

Several parking spaces near the store have been converted into 'Pickup' spots. The promotional fliers in the store tell customers: "Turn Your Car into a Cart."

To try it out, or for more information, visit stopandshop.com/pickup. Customers pay online, and can schedule a time slot to pick up the groceries.

Do they load the groceries too?

They are supposed to. I actually just tried to go online and order something, but could not find the Milford store listed on the pickup service website. Not sure how to order yet...

I figured it out. The Milford location isn't on the website yet. But if you click on any of the other stores that have it in Mass, it takes you to the order home page, where you can log in using the Milford zipcode. Sort of a roundabout way, but it's live at least!

Are the groceries actually coming from inside that store? i know when you order through peapod they are being picked at their warehouse and I've had a couple of nasty items thrown in my peapod orders....i'd be inclined to try it if the groceries were coming from the store.

I'm not sure. I assumed they were, since peapod is partnering with Stop & Shop on it, but the link should explain the details.

My opinion, Stop and Shop is just too darn expensive. This is just a gimmick that won't win me over. I go to Market Basket and Aldi.
