Resort Casino Defeated at Polls in West Springfield; Slots Parlor Approved in Plainville Vote

Milford's casino proposal is in the greater Boston region. Hard Rock, in western Massachusetts, was defeated Tuesday by a town vote in West Springfield.

The nearly $1 billion resort casino proposed for West Springfield was defeated by town voters at a referendum Tuesday, the Boston Globe reported, while a slots parlor proposed for Plainville won approval from that town's voters.

The vote in West Springfield was 4,165 against, 3,413 in favor. The resort casino there was proposed by Hard Rock. In Plainville, voters approved a proposal by Penn National with 1,582 in favor, 502 opposed.

Neither of these applications will compete with Foxwoods Massachusetts, as the resort casino proposed for Milford is in the greater Boston region of applicants. Milford voters will go to the polls on Nov. 19.
