Palm, Tarot Card Reader 'Miss Mello' Opens in Milford

Miss Mello, who used to work in East Boston, says people in Milford have been friendly and receptive to her business on Main Street.

Miss Mello, a tarot card and palm reader, relocated to Milford over the summer, seeking what many former city residents crave: a new start, some peace and quiet and a smaller town to raise her children.

Her business, initially established in East Boston, is now located at 20 Main St., across from the Dunkin' Donuts. She remade the interior of the former Silver Hanger Cleaners into a bright, clean space with windows facing Main Street.

The constant traffic, for her, is a good sign. People in town have been friendly and receptive to her business, she said, in an interview last week. Spiritual readings are a family business, she said. Her family runs a sister shop, in Acton, Diane's Palm and Tarot. And her grandmother ran the former Tea Party in Boston.

"I've been doing this since I was 10," said Miss Mello, who is 33. "It's not something you learn. It was always in us."

For people who may be unfamiliar, a tarot card and palm reader is not a medium. A medium focuses on the spirit world and the deceased, Miss Mello explained, while palm and tarot readers read the energy around living people, and how the cards they choose play out in a sequence.

Frequently, people come in groups for readings. Her business draws all kinds, she said, including older women, young men, teenagers and others who want advice in career, love, finances, or major decisions.

Women make up most of the audience, she said. "Women are more open," she said. "They're more open for a woman to give them advice. They're more open to spirituality."

The questions they ask are similar, she said. "They want to know, is it more than just this? I would say to anyone, try it once."

Palm readings are conducted for $25 per person. The tarot card readings are $30. She is also available for parties. The shop is open daily. Walk-ins are welcomed, and appointments are available, too. Miss Mello is at 20 Main St., Milford. 508-381-0955.
