WMRC Local Music Awards

The WMRC Local Music Awards, featuring limos and red carpet entrances, made local acts feel like stars for a day. The 2nd annual event was held at PiNZ.

More than 30 local artists and acts took part in a red carpet, limousine-ferried entrance and friendly competition at PiNZ Sunday, for the 2nd annual WRMC Local Music Awards.

The event celebrates and recognizes local artists, including bands with at least one member from Milford, or who play at Milford venues.

For many, the night was a great time to celebrate local performance, whether it's a cover band, a tribute band or original music.

Jeff Royds, nominated in two categories Sunday, for Best Local Mobile DJ, and Best Local Acoustic Act, and his wife, Cassandra, came to PiNZ to "support local music."

Royds has been playing music since he was 12, and he said the local music scene has died back in the past decade, with many people no longer wanting to see live acts. The event is a chance to celebrate the artists.
