Portuguese Picnic and Parade This Weekend

The annual celebration of Portuguese culture is Saturday and Sunday.

As the signs posted around town reveal, the annual Portuguese Picnic and Parade is this weekend in Prospect Heights.

The event, sponsored by the , takes place in the neighborhood each summer. The hours this year will be noon to 1 a.m. Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Live music will be a part of the event, but will stop at an earlier time this year so neighbors won't be disturbed. The music will end at 12:15 a.m. Saturday and at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Milford Selectmen recently decided.

The parade will be Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. at and heading up Main Street, to Water Street, then ending at the Portuguese Club.

Police Chief Tom O'Loughlin told selectmen that four troopers and a sergeant from the Massachusetts State Police will be on hand to help local police with the two-day event. On-duty officers will be focused on the Prospect Heights neighborhood, he said, as well as along Route 140.
