UPDATED: Winter Storm Warning for 30-Hour Snow Storm, Milford Schools to Reopen

A Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 4 a.m. Thursday and continue through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snowfall for a broad region, including Milford, which remain in effect until 10 a.m. Friday.

The snow is expected to be heaviest on Thursday night into Friday, when it could fall at rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour.

Milford Public Schools will reopen on schedule Thursday, the Milford Superintendent announced early this morning. No decision has been made as yet about Friday.

In neighboring Upton, Blackstone Valley Tech is closed on Thursday and Friday due to the storm, according to a message on the phone system. The regional vocational-technical school includes Milford and surrounding towns.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will span up to 30 hours and will bring at its worst, heavy snow, dangerously low wind chills and "considerable blowing and drifting snow."

The National Weather Service forecasts a  snow fall of 6 to 10 inches for Milford, according to the warning.

Snow is expected to form after midnight Wednesday, and will continue through Thursday, with an expected lull in the afternoon Thursday, particularly south of the Mass Pike.

The now then will resume Thursday night into Friday, intensifying to 1 to 2 inches per hour. At these times, the snow will result in poor visibility and travel "may become impossible."

Winds will be from the Northeast, at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.
