Severe Thunderstorms with Hail and Wind Possible on Wednesday Evening

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect on Wednesday afternoon and evening for a large portion of Massachusetts plus parts of New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

The possibility of thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong wind and hail has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch for Wednesday afternoon.

The watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a severe thunderstorm, which could include hail and damaging winds.

It covers much of eastern and central Massachusetts, including Essex, Middlesex and Worcester counties, plus Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties in western Massachusetts. 

The watch also extends to southern New Hampshire, including Cheshire and Hillsborough counties and into Rhode Island, where Providence county is under the severe thunderstorm watch.

The severe thunderstorm watch was issued at about 1:30 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.
