Milford to Gather Tuesday to Honor Boston Marathon Bombing Anniversary

Editor's Note: Tuesday's tribute has been moved from the Draper Park indoors to the Milford First Congregational Church at 4 Congress St.

Milford officials will gather on Tuesday, April 15 in memory of the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings. 

Residents in the Milford area are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday inside Milford First Congregational Church.

The event will include appearances by State Sen. Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge); State Rep. John Fernandes (D-Milford); Jeffrey Hopkins, MD, Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Milford Regional Medical Center; local clergy; area municipal officials and area emergency medical personnel. 

Michael Shain, founder of "Thanks to Yanks," a local organization aimed at paying tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The ceremony will comprise a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the bombings and include the ringing of church bells at 2:49 p.m., the time when the first bomb exploded at the marathon last year. 

Hopkins will offer remarks about the 2013 Boston Marathon, where he was present to provide medical attention at the starting line. 

Moore and Fernandes will also offer remarks, reflecting on the impact of the bombings on the Milford area and the entire state.

In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Milford Congregational Church, 4 Congress St. in Milford.
