Curious George to Visit Chabad House Jewish Center in Milford

George and "The Man with the Yellow Hat" will help read the Ten Commandments.

The Chabad House Jewish Center in Milford is welcoming the Jewish community to a special reading of the 10 Commandments on Wednesday, June 4.

The event is meant to be held in line with the holiday of Shavout, and will feature a special appearance by Curious George and "The Man in the Yellow Hat," as well as a traditional dairy meal and ice cream party.

The holiday, considered one of Judaism's major holidays, celebrates the Giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai 3,300 years ago, and as part of the traditional celebration, cheesecakes, pesto pastas, lasagna, souffles, and cheese blintzes and ice cream are all offered.

"No, it isn't all about the food," Rabbi Mendy Kivman of Chabad said in a statement. "What is important is that the community is joining together, hearing the reading of the Ten Commandments and celebrating the Torah. But the good food certainly helps."

The June 4 program will comprise three parts, the first of which will include the appearance of Curious George for children up to age 8 beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Shortly thereafter, at 6 p.m., a Torah reading will be held for older children and adults. The reading will be followed by a light dairy buffet dinner and ice cream bar. At 7 p.m., adults can take part in the "Torah and Tea with Rochy" program.

There are no admission or membership fees to join the service. For more information, visit www.gotchabad.com or www.jewishma.com or call 508-473-1299.
