5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 8

Milford Selectmen will meet tonight and discussion of the proposed casino, Foxwoods Massachusetts, is on the agenda.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Milford Selectmen will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, and the agenda includes a report from the Casino Free Milford group, requesting selectmen to end discussions with the executives proposing the casino for Milford, Foxwoods Massachusetts.

2. Children will begin swimming lessons today at Fino Memorial Pool. Spots are still open and registrations will be accepted between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Monday, with the students starting their swimming lessons afterward. Some time slots may be filled-but still plenty of openings. The fees have not changed since last year: $25 per swimmer and $60 per family. The two week program ends July 19.

3. The first of four theme-specific meetings on the proposed casino will be held Wednesday, at Milford High School. The topic this week is traffic, and how the plan will address cars exiting and entering the facility.

4. Some business updates: Napoleon's Pizza has recently reopened for business at its Beach Street location.

5. And another business update: the owners of Peter's Market have filed an appeal of a town suspension of its liquor license. A hearing will be held in September.
