5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 19

Missed the casino topic meetings? They're on YouTube for your convenience. And Clifford the Big Red Dog is coming to Milford.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. If you missed a meeting on the casino impacts this month, they are being broadcast live by Milford TV, and are available on the station's YouTube channel a short time later. The traffic impact and water/sewer meetings are there now for viewing at your convenience.

2. The next scheduled impact meeting for the casino project is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the topic will focus on economic and business impacts of the development. This meeting starts an hour earlier, to allow residents to ask questions about water concerns. Residents didn't get a chance to do that this week, because the water/sewer meeting went late.

3. If you missed the Woodland School Building Committee meeting last week, there is another public meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. July 31 at Milford Town Hall that will include the project engineer's assessment of the current site.

4. The Milford Schools is the focus of a feature story in American School Boards Journal, which focuses on its decision in 2008 to end a relationship with the New England Center for Children, and develop its own Milestones program for educating children with Autism. The story, published in April, is available here.

5. Are you a fan of Clifford the Big Red Dog? Well, he's coming to Milford Town Library at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. From its announcement: "Children are invited to participate in an engaging story time and related activities with their favorite big red dog. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos of their children with Clifford." Registration is required for this program.
