'Treats for Troops' Sends 450 Pounds of Milford Halloween Candy to Overseas Troops

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. Some 450 pounds of Halloween candy was turned in to Milford's Treats for Troops effort, led by Milford resident Lisa Vasile, an Army Nurse Corps veteran, and Mike Shain, founder of Thanks to Yanks. The candy was then shipped overseas to the troops. Vasile, owner of 4 Better Health, thanks Josette Puig of GetJosette, Tamara Palmer of Palmer Family Chiropractic, LaRose Muscular Therapy, Alison Nelson of Point of Healing Acupuncuture, April Leman of Community Impact, and Ken Weber of the UPS Store.

2. Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra sent out a note on Thursday, informing residents that tickets to its Holiday Pops 2013 concert are now on sale, and selling fast. See the website for more information. The concert is Saturday, Dec. 14.

3. Milford Chronicles, a collection of columns by Milford resident and historian Paul Curran, 84, picked up its first positive review on Amazon.com. The book was released less than a month ago.

4. Reminder: Milford will host a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday at the Milford Highway Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
