Open House at Cornerstone at Milford, Milford Photography on Display in Mendon

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. Cornerstone at Milford, a new assisted living facility on Birch Street with an Alzheimer's care wing, will have an open house Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. The facility is taking deposits now for apartments, with an anticipated opening in January.

2. Photographs by Milford photographer Jim Calarese are on display at the Milford National Bank and Trust branch in Mendon through the end of September. Calarese last week won first place in photography at the Hopedale Day in the Park event for his photograph, "Path to Serenity."

3. Enrique's Journey, a nonfiction book by award-winning journalist Sonia Nazario that traces the journey of a Honduran boy to reach his mother in the U.S., will be discussed at Milford Town Library at 7 p.m. Thursday.

4. Do you want to learn how to fly-fish? It all starts with learning to tie a fly. Nipmuc Rod and Gun Club will demonstrate this art on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., starting Sept. 25.

5. Gardner Rhett, 76, originally of Milford, who won fame at 15 as the youngest player to hit a home run at Fenway Park, died on Tuesday, according to an obituary published by Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
