Milford Police Recognized for Initiating Smart 911 Service

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. Milford Police have received an honor for being the first community in Massachusetts to partner with Smart 911, a Framingham-based service that allows police dispatchers to see descriptions of households who call 911 after signing up. If you haven't already, register at www.smart911.com.

2. Today is the final day for families in need to sign up for Christmas or Thanksgiving assistance through the Salvation Army. The Milford offices are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applicants will need to bring identification (such as a driver’s license), proof of residence (such as a utility bill mailed to your home), proof of income for the household (such as pay stubs or award letters) and copies of birth certificates for children. See more details here.

3. The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gold's Gym in Milford.

4. Reminder that schools are closed on Monday for Columbus Day. Staff and teachers get the day off, too.

5. In Case You Missed It: Barry Feingold, the president and CEO of the Milford Area Chamber of Commerce, announced his resignation on Thursday.
