Milford Farmer's Market Set for Saturday, Slots Parlor Rejected in Tewksbury

The Farmers Market has a final go-ahead for Saturday's opening. And in Tewksbury, a full house turned out and rejected a slots-only casino. Resort casinos, such as the one proposed for Milford, are more intensive developments.

1. The Milford Farmers Market on Tuesday received approval from the Planning Board to use the lot next to Town Hall as its location this year. The market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, beginning Aug. 24. Farmers featured include Torosian Valley Farm on Howard Street in Milford, and Julie's Z Breads, of Medway, which makes a variety of zucchini breads.

2. The farmers market is on Facebook now, and on twitter too @01757FarmersMkt https://twitter.com/01757FarmersMkt.

3. In Tewksbury, residents at a special town meeting rejected a zoning amendment Tuesday that would have allowed a slots parlor to open. A slots parlor — which is electronic gaming only — would receive a different license from the state than a resort casino.

4. Milford Police now through the end of Labor Day weekend will take part in the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. According to the release: "Milford Police officers will be aggressively looking for all impaired drivers during the crackdown with plans to arrest anyone found operating a vehicle while impaired — regardless of age, vehicle type, or time of day."

5. A cheer clinic will be held Saturday at Express Dance & Acrobatics on South Main Street. The clinic is available to athletes aged 6 (as of Aug. 31) through 18. It will be instructed by Coach Lindsey Larsen-Kelsey. See the announcement for more details.
