MHS National Art Honor Society to Host Holiday Book Fair

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. On Sunday, the Milford High School National Art Honor Society will host a holiday book fair at Barnes & Noble in Bellingham. The students will read to children, lead them through winter crafts activities, and a small group of students also will perform in the cafe.

2. Milford Selectmen have appointed Shannon Sanchez of Milford as a departmental accounting clerk. The town received 32 applications for the opening. Eleven people were interviewed by the town accountant and town administrator. Sanchez was chosen based on her experience. She will be paid $18.29 an hour and will begin Dec. 16.

3. A special town meeting that had been scheduled for Dec. 9 has been dissolved, or cancelled. The meeting was to consider zoning changes for the Foxwoods Massachusetts casino, a project that died once voters rejected it in a town wide referendum Nov. 19.

4. Reminder: the town is now operating under a winter parking ban. This means that cars cannot be parked from midnight to 6 p.m. on town streets, regardless of weather conditions. Milford Police have been ticketing cars this week for violating the ban, which is required for snow and ice removal.

5. In Case You Missed It: Milford has at least three locations where people can drop off new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program. They include Commerce Bank, ERA Real Estate/Key Realty and Scott Anthony Barber Shop.
