Lois the Cat Celebrates a 20th Birthday

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. A very special birthday party is planned Saturday at the Milford Humane Society. Lois, a sweet cat who is the unofficial "greeter" for visitors at the shelter, will turn 20. A party is planned in her honor. See the announcement for more detail.

2. Terry Chiaradio, Director of Poker Operations at Foxwoods Connecticut, will be available to speak with residents from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Foxwoods storefront in downtown Milford. An employee of Foxwoods since 1992, Chiaradio started as a poker dealer and progressed to her current position. She can discuss gaming floor positions available through the Foxwoods Massachusetts casino proposal, which includes 3,000 construction jobs and 3,500 permanent jobs.

3. Special Community of Milford will hold its 2nd Annual Holiday Shopping Fair on Nov. 23 at the Crystal Room on Route 85/Cedar Street in Milford. Crafters and home-party businesses are welcome to inquire about tables. To reserve a table contact Deb via email atdbg621@hotmail.com.

4. The Milford School Committee will meet on Thursday. The agenda includes discussion of the Woodland Elementary School Building proposal.

5. Save the date: PiNZ and the Blue Dog Sports Bar & Grille will host a Casino-Free Milford night on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 9 p.m. Twenty percent of the food and beverage sales in that time period will be directed to Casino-Free Milford if the customers mention the group by name. In addition 20 percent of all bowling and laser tag sales at PiNZ will be donated to Casino-Free Milford.
