Former Celtics Star Chris Herren to Speak in Milford, Leaf Schedule Now Online

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. Milford Public Schools will host a community event this month with former Boston Celtics player Chris Herren, a Fall River native, who realized his lifelong dream of playing for the team only to lose it all to alcohol and drug addiction.   Sober since 2008, Herren now shares his life experiences with addiction to help educate parents and teens on the dangers of drug and alcohol use. He will appear at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the high school auditorium, and earlier, at assemblies for the students.

2. The leaf collection schedule for the fall is now online. 

3. The Milford School Committee meets at 7 p.m. Thursday. The agenda includes introduction of the new guidance director, Matthew Baione, as well as recognition of the Senator Louis P. Bertonazzi Foundation's Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Walsh.

4. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Milford Youth Center. Team registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday and tournament play will begin approximately 11 a.m. Teams can also register online by visiting this address:http://www.hoopcrew.net/3-on-3-tournaments.html. Team entry fees are $45 for this double-elimination event. Teams can have up to 4 players. Additional rules, information and details can be found online. 

5. The Milford Farmers Market volunteers and vendors will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Milford Town Library. The public is invited to share suggestions.
