An Honor for Milford High School, Services Scheduled for David Cassinelli

Here are five things to help inform your day.

1. Milford High School will install several banners on light posts outside the school, recognizing the school as among the top 50 public high schools in Massachusetts, as  designated by U.S. News & World Report. The 2013 Best High Schools rankings were released by U.S. News this spring, with Milford being ranked as 37 out of the top 50 Massachusetts public high schools. The media company evaluates schools on overall scores on statewide exams, how effectively schools educated low-income and at-risk students, and scores on Advanced Placement (AP) exams.

2. Friends and family of the late David Cassinelli are invited to attend his Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail, c/o Milford Parks & Recreation Department, 52 Main St., Milford MA 01757 or at www.milfordtrail.org.

3. The Milford Board of Health will discuss a proposal to introduce 'single-stream', barrel-based recycling and garbage collection at a meeting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9, according to Health Agent Paul Mazzuchelli. The meeting, initially scheduled for Aug. 26, has been pushed back due to member scheduling conflicts.

4. An effort is underway to plant daffodils along the Boston Marathon route, from Hopkinton to Boston. The Marathon Daffodils project is an effort by gardening groups, citizens, businesses and town governments. Volunteers will be needed to help plant the bulbs, starting in October. Funds for bulbs and supplies also are being collected.

5. The rescheduled show of Help!, the Beatles tribute band, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Milford Town Park. The original show, part of the WMRC Family Night at the Bandstand, was cancelled Tuesday due to rain.
