New scams are being created every day in order to try and steal your hard-earned money, and your identity. And they are becoming more and more tricky to recognize. Thankfully, being forewarned is being forearmed! In this presentation we will be reviewing common types of fraud and financial exploitation, and who is at risk. You'll learn how to understand the warning signs in order to prevent and minimize exploitation, and how to find resources in order to make better-informed decisions. We'll cover topics ranging from charity and Internet scams, to investment fraud. Perhaps most importantly, we'll also discuss identity theft, offering tips on how you can protect yourself.

Your Money: Keep More in 2024! Protect Your Identity & Avoid Scams

The First Congregational Church of Milford is sponsoring an Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The church will ensure that 99% of dropped off items will be reused and recycled.
All computer monitors, computers, parts and accessories, faxes, copiers, printers, scanners, and TV’s can be recycled. Recycling fees range from $5 to $40 per item. Cell phones can be recycled at no charge and will be donated to charities that recycle and reuse them. The recycling vendor will erase and shred all hard drives at no additional cost.
This event is an easy and fun way to dispose of the old electronics in your garage, basement, attic, and offices. So, start setting them aside now and bring them to the church parking lot on Saturday, April 20th. A drive through process will allow those donating to quickly drop off their items where help will be available.
The First Congregational Church Electronics Recycling event is held twice a year during April and September. We very much appreciate the support of those who have previously chosen to responsibly recycle with us and look forward to continuing to offer this recycling opportunity.

The program features a world premiere of “Voyagers”, written for Cassatt by Holy Cross music professor Chris Arrell. The quartet will be joined by jazz vocalist Dominique Eade and bassist Peter Weitzner for the premieres of two works composed this year by faculty emeritus Shirish Korde. Korde’s Moods of Ellington was inspired by music of the great jazz master, in celebration of Ellington’s 125th birth anniversary (1899-1974). Korde’s God Bless The Child, a fantasia on the classic song made famous by Billie Holiday, rounds out the program.

Citizens for Milford is organizing Milford Beautification Day, Milford’s annual clean-up event, on Saturday, April 27 (rain or shine) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All interested citizens are invited to meet with organizers anytime between those hours in the municipal parking lot across from Sacred Heart Church (5 East Main Street) to get supplies, instructions, and assignments.
Families, community groups, churches, local businesses, and teenagers who need to perform service hours are all invited to participate. Younger children are encouraged to attend as long as they are accompanied by a supervising adult.
Members of the Milford Lions Club will provide a free lunch of freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs to all volunteers!

GMCC invites you to attend “Songs from Stage and Screen,” at its upcoming choral concert on May 5 at 1:30 pm in the Grand Ballroom at Milford Town Hall. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Music and Arts or at the door.
GMCC is under the direction of Mark Schiappucci and they will be accompanied by Wayne Ward on piano, Robert Orr on bass and David Beyer on percussion. Various soloists will also be featured. “‘From Stage and Screen’ will be a celebration of music that has been heard in a variety of entertainment sources; from the big screen to musical theater, as well as television. There will be something for everyone and a few moments of comic relief as well. Please join us for this fun-filled afternoon. The performance will be held on Sunday May 5 at 1:30 pm at The Grand Ballroom in Milford Town Hall.

The 2024 Virtual Esophageal Cancer Walk/Run event can take place in your neighborhood, on a trail, bike path, track, by the ocean, sea, river or wherever you would like to walk or run.
Participants can also bicycle, rollerblade, skateboard, swim, the possibilities are endless! Since the virtual event is not timed, you are able to participate at your own pace, any distance and at any time either Saturday or Sunday.

Learn the facts about esophageal cancer:
-Esophageal cancer has increased over 733% in the past four decades and is considered the fastest growing cancer in the US and western world.
-Risk factors include:
<ul><li>Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD, acid reflux, chronic heartburn),</li></ul>
<ul><li>obesity,</li></ul>
<ul><li>poor nutrition,</li></ul>
<ul><li>tobacco use,</li></ul>
<ul><li>excessive alcohol use,</li></ul>
<ul><li>Barrett’s esophagus.</li></ul>
-As one of the deadliest cancers, esophageal cancer has an overall 5-year survival rate of only 21.7%.
-There are no routine or standard screenings to improve early detection of esophageal cancer.
-Symptoms often arise late, once the cancer is considered advanced or “distant” (spread to lymph nodes and other organs.)
-Stage IV esophageal cancer has a survival rate of only 5.6%.
-Despite these facts, esophageal cancer research is extremely underfunded.

Registration is OPEN for the Youth Leadership Academy in MEDWAY!
There are four sessions available, each one-week long. Sessions start July 8, July 15, July 22, and July 29. They are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Monday through Thursday) and 9 a.m. to noon on graduation day (Friday).
With a goal of developing youth leaders in the community, the Academy includes icebreakers, games, activities, and demonstrations aimed at building self-confidence, problem-solving, goal-setting, and communication skills in an atmosphere of fun and adventure. A highlight of the Academy is the high ropes course, which offers an opportunity for personal challenge in a supportive environment.&nbsp;
Although the Norfolk County&nbsp;Sheriff’s Office runs this program, this is not a ‘boot camp’ style experience. We engage students in a fun and friendly way.
This program is for children aged 10 to 14 years old. $199 per child per week ($35 if they qualify for free or reduced school lunch).
