About this column:

This occasional column will feature a newly opened business in Milford.
A bar and restaurant owned by an Uxbridge restaurateur and a Milford firefighter will open next month on Central Street. The Central Tavern is expected to open at 31 Central St. by May. It is owned by Paul Iacovelli, who runs Kapi's Pub on North Main Street in Uxbridge, and Alfred Pighetti, a Milford firefighter who said he plans to retire next year and is looking for a new business venture. Milford Selectmen approved the transfer of the business license, alcohol and entertainment licenses, subject to Board of Health approval of plans. The Night Lite Lounge, the most recent business in that …
Anyone who's ever walked blindly into a yoga class, with little knowledge of the methods or moves, knows how awkward it can be. You try to figure out what you're doing by watching the people around you. This isn't the experience of yoga that Truth Yoga Studio wants you to have. The small, intimate studio opened on Main Street about a month ago, under the ownership of Traci Ward. Ward picked her materials and location carefully, after conducting research into the options for yoga in Milford. What she learned was Milford didn't have a dedicated yoga studio. And she was encouraged to open a …
CrossFit, the workout trend that is sweeping the nation, is coming to Milford thanks to Lisa and Thomas Mikkelsen of Holliston. The couple opened their workout gym, CrossFit Never Doubt, and running store, Run Fit, at 231 E. Main St. last month and they say their growth has already exceeded expectations. "We've only been open for a few weeks and we already have more than 20 members," Thomas Mikkelsen said. "That's three times the amount we expected to have by now." The Mikkelsen's are runners at heart, they've both ran in the Boston Marathon, but they took to CrossFit several years ago as a …
A new wine shop in Milford understands that people can get intimidated and confused when choosing wines. And that sometimes, you just need a little taste to make sure it's good. The Tasting Room opened this month in a retail space on West Street. The shop features Italian wines and olive oils imported by the Guido family of Milford. Inside the space, a horseshoe-shaped bar, supported by wine barrels, provides a space for wine-tasting events. The tasting menu will change weekly. For several years, James G. and Mary Guido, and their son, James E. Guido, have imported Italian wines. In the past …
Downtown Milford is where Scott Braga and Julio Resto want to be: right in the middle of things. They opened Classic Barber Shop this past weekend, taking over a small, closed space at 16 Central St. that used to be a gun shop, but years ago was a barbershop. Before opening, they repainted the interior and exterior, moved in the vintage barber chairs and hung a banner outside. Braga also owns Scott Anthony Classic Barbershop on West Street. Resto, a friend, has been a barber for six years, but this is his first business. "I've been waiting for this for six years; I'm so happy about the …
When you switch to the community channels on your TV, not much has changed — yet. But in the next few months, Milford viewers will begin to notice a more professional appearance to the community access and government programs, and more shows, said Rob O'Keefe, the new executive director of Milford TV. Milford TV is a non-profit corporation that took over public access television programming on Aug. 23. It is now building a state-of-the-art studio at 138 S. Main St., in the Milford Square plaza. Until the studio is completed, the programs will continue to run from a temporary location at …
Maria De Vila-Goncalves had always thought about opening her own business, to the point where she had the name picked out: Maria Sews a Lot. The name was inspired by a comment made by her then-small daughter, telling her she should call the business that, because Maria "sews a lot." More than 10 years later, Maria Sews a Lot opened at 262 Main St. in Milford. De Vila-Goncalves started sewing as a child in Portugual. She creates anything that can be made with fabric and thread, including: window treatments, embroidery, pillows, smocks, aprons, knitted bags, and personalized bookbags. The most …
People who love wine will be interested in a new business on East Main Street in Milford. The shop, 77th & Vine, takes its name from the street address. It offers kits and supplies for making wine. The inspiration was childhood memories of winemaking, said owner Matthew Metti, who grew up in a neighborhood of Providence. "I made wine with my grandfather as a kid," Metti said. "It was part of my Italian heritage." Now semi-retired, Metti decided Milford was the right location. He chose an emtpy storefront on East Main Street, and opened 77th & Vine on Sunday. The shop sells everything you need…
