James E. Kellett II, the nearly 40-year owner and funeral director of James E. Kellett and Son Funeral Home, died this week following a long battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Mr. Kellett, who was 61, was a graduate of Milford High School, and of New England Institute for Applied Sciences. Dr. Joseph E. Murray, who grew up in Milford and went on to become an accomplished surgeon who was part of the team that performed the first human organ transplant, died Monday at a Boston hospital. Dr. Murray, who was 93, received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1990 for his pioneering work in organ transplants. He grew up in Milford, the youngest of three children, and the son of a school teacher and a District Court judge.
