Police Log: Wandering Child, Hit-and-Run

Select items from the March 8-9 police log.

The last day's log includes the report of a young boy found wandering with no shoes on. There was also an accident in which the driver fled, but left a trail of evidence from the scene, including his bumper, which police were able to connect with a car in a Hopedale driveway.

Tuesday, March 8

2:05 p.m.: Police requested a log of suspicious activity involving a Honda Accord at Bacon Slip and South Bow Street. A male party approached the window of his vehicle and then walked away suspiciously.

5:18 p.m.: A caller stated he found a young child at High and West streets. According to Lt. James Falvey, the child was a boy, between the ages of 2 and 4, who was walking around with no shoes. The caller put a sweatshirt on the boy and called police. The caller spoke Portuguese to the boy, who responded in the same language. When police responded they took the boy to the station and searched the neighborhood looking for the boy's parents. They tracked down the mother at her home on Bancroft Avenue. The woman told police her son was in his bedroom, sleeping, but police told her he was with them. The state Department of Children and Family Services was contacted. Police did not find evidence that the boy had been abused; Falvey said he wandered out of the house.

9:55 p.m.: Police arrested Charles R. Roy, 24, of 64 Emory St., Attleboro, on two warrants.

Wednesday, March 9

1:49 a.m.: Police responded to a hit-and-run accident on Hayward Street; the caller said a driver struck a telephone pole, which was hanging. National Grid responded. Police followed a trail of oil into Hopedale, and located a vehicle that showed obvious signs of damage, in the driveway of a Hopedale home. Lt. James Falvey said the parents of the driver said their son wasn't home. Police retrieved the bumper of the vehicle in the accident and it matched the vehicle in the driveway.

7:32 a.m.: Two callers reported icy road conditions on Central Street. The was notified.

7:43 a.m.: A 9-year-old male on Jillson Circle zippered his eyelid in his hoodie and it was stuck. He was taken to the hospital.

11:26 a.m.: State and local police arrested Michael B. Fantini, 29, of 63 Pearl St., Apt. 2L, on West Spruce Street and charged him on a warrant.

11:41 a.m.: State and local police arrested Vincent A. Lalli, 63, of 13 Gibbon Ave., Milford, and charged him on four warrants.

12:23 p.m.: A woman from East Street Extension said her medication was missing; she said her house had possibly been ransacked.
