Police Log: Fleeing Vehicle Reaches Speeds of 100 mph

The following information was supplied by the Milford police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

In the dispatch log of Feb. 3-5, Milford officers attempted to find a vehicle, reported by Upton Police as fleeing their town, that was last seen on East Street driving at about 100 mph.

Friday, Feb. 3

4:59 p.m.: A woman walked in to police headquarters to report a car was driving erratically on Congress Street, and the operator didn't stop for people in the crosswalk. She provided a plate number.

6:35 p.m: A caller on Washington Street complained a group of people were going door-to-door selling windows.

7:09 p.m.: A two-car crash on East Main Street was reported. No injuries were involved.

7:14 p.m.: Officers spoke to a group of skateboarders in Draper Memorial Park and told them to leave.

8:16 p.m.: A caller reported a Dodge van with Rhode Island plates was "all over the road" on Main Street, and that it "almost hit multiple telephone poles." The van pulled into the Highway Department facility on Front Street for a police stop. The vehicle was towed.

10:02 p.m.: A vehicle was repossessed outside Pepperoncini's without incident.

11:32 p.m.: A female told police she and her friends were coming out of McDonald's on South Main Street, and noticed a man in his 20s was staring at them. When they got into their car, he got into a white sedan and began following them, "flashing his high-beams, trying to get them to stop their motor vehicle. The girls were able to lose the sedan and return to their residence." Police checked the area but were not able to find the sedan.

Saturday, Feb. 4

1:15 a.m.: A caller on South Main Street told police loud music was coming from a neighbor's apartment. Police spoke to the noise-makers.

2:22 a.m.: A caller on School Street complained his car had been struck with an egg.

2:45 a.m.: Hopedale Police called to report a man with a winter hat on was in front of the McDonald's on South Main Street, "and he keeps jumping out into the road in front of cars." Police responded, and took "two men back to the station to get a ride."

8:19 a.m.: A caller reported a suspicious looking van in the parking lot of Commerce Bank and Trust. Police determined the people were customers waiting for the bank to open.

8:51 a.m.: Police conducted a well-being check on a 1-year-old who was in the custody of his father on West Street.

11:34 a.m.: A two-car crash was reported on East Main Street at Medway Road. No injuries were involved. One car was towed.

11:53 a.m.: Vandalism to an empty house was reported on Purchase Street.

3:59 p.m.: An officer removed a group of skateboarders from Draper Memorial Park.

7:56 p.m.: A caller reported a dead deer in the middle of Medway Road. Police were unable to locate the animal.

10:31 p.m.: A caller on Main Street reported their 17-year-old daughter was causing a disturbance, and possibly was in possession of a knife.

10:40 p.m.: A hit-and-run was reported on Main Street at Tedeschi. An officer arrested Anthony Bernard Benson, 17, of 49 Carroll St., Milford, on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of property damage, leaving the scene of personal injury, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and furnishing false name and or social security number. Police also arrested John Nelson Vaz, 32, of 10.5 Bragg Slip, Milford, on charges of disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.

10:52 p.m.: A passenger in a hit-and-run reported back pain from the collision. The man was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

Sunday, Feb. 5

12:25 a.m.: A 23-year-old woman was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center after reporting tooth pain from an "unfinished root canal."

1:41 a.m.: Upton Police reported a fleeing vehicle heading into Milford on West Street. Milford police last reported seeing the vehicle on East Street at Hayward. Patrol cars in the area were searching for the vehicle, which was observed heading toward Central Street at a speed estimated at 100 mph.

2:40 a.m.: A noise complaint came in from South Main Street, reporting loud music at a neighbor's apartment.

11:36 a.m.: The animal control officer asked for police assistance in handling a possible instance of a stolen dog. The animal control officer called back and cancelled the request.

1:42 p.m.: A caller reported youths on the new football field at Milford High School.
