Police Log: Car Fire on I-495, Weekend Brush Fires

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Friday, April 26

5:34 p.m.: A two-car crash was reported on Purchase Street, at Haven Street. A woman said she was not hurt but her nose was bleeding. She was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

5:55 p.m.: A woman shoplifter was detained at Kohl's.

9:07 op.m.: A two-car crash was reported on Cedar Street. No injury was reported.

1:56 a.m.: An employee at 7-Eleven said a man who is not allowed in to the store is outside, banging on the windows. Police responded but he was gone.

2:17 a.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Spring Street, police arrested William A. Marks, 31, of 11 Maple St., Apt 2, Spencer, on charges of operating a motor vehicle with suspended license, subsequent offense, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a warrant.

7:19 a.m.: A caller complained of loud noise coming from the top of Lawrence Street. 

7:44 a.m.: A caller again reproted noise coming from the top of Lawrence Street. Police could not locate the source of the noise.

11:04 a.m.: A caller said a vehicle with NH plates was parked in the lot of Workforce Central Career Center. The vehicle is packed with items. Police spoke to the people involved.

2:25 p.m.: A caller on Isaiah Circle said a young man in a red shirt was soliciting. Police checked and it was a person collecting donations for Relay for Life, and he checked out OK.

2:33 p.m.: A brush fire was reported about a mile into the Vietnam Trails section off Cedar Street. Firefighters from Bellingham, Ashland, Franklin and Mendon helped Milford to extinguish it.

2:51 p.m.: A caller reported the fish truck was parked in front of his driveway on Grove Street.

2:57 p.m.: Police received a report that a male on a skateboard had Fortune Boulevard street signs. Police are seeking a summons to charge Christopher Dubeau, 18, of 5 Rosenfeld Ave., Apt. B, Milford, with larceny under $250.

3:18 p.m.: A woman reported smoke coming from the area of Camp Street and Purchase Street. Firefighters determined the fire was coming from a wooded area behind the Milford Water Company. The fire was reported to be 2-3 acres and expanding. Hopedale, Bellingham, Upton, and Hopkinton assisted Milford firefighters in extinguishing it.

3:54 p.m.: A caller reported a racoon in the area of Cemetery Street that was vicious.

4:00 p.m.: A firefighter investigated a report of a possible third brush fire in the area off Walden Woods. The firefighter determined it was part of the Vietnam Trails area fire.

4:21 p.m.: A caller reported a stove fire on Highland Street that was extinguished, but the house was filled with smoke. Hopedale, staffing the Milford fire stations, responded.

5:05 p.m.: Mulch was reported to be on fire at the near a fire hydrant.

5:42 p.m.: A caller on Casey Drive asked to speak to police about dirt bike riders in the woods.

6:38 p.m.: A 9-year-old boy was hit with a baseball bat on Morey Way. He had a small laceration to the head. The boy was taken to the hospital.

7:38 p.m.: Milford Regional Medical Center staff asked for police assistance with a person giving them a hard time at the registration desk.

7:42 p.m.: A caller said he saw a woman walking down Sumner Street, crying and yelling. A man in a black Mercedes was trying to get her in the vehicle. Police determined it was an argument over a cell phone and money. The people went on their way.

9:33 p.m.: A caller reported a loud part on Shadowbrook Lane.

10:01 p.m.: A caller said several people were hanging out in Milford Town Park by the bleachers. Police spoke to the youths.

Sunday, April 28

12:36 a.m.: A caller at Burger King asked to speak to an officer about a former employee who had shown up at the home of a manager.

1:20 a.m.: A caller reported three or four people in an Elantra appeared to be intoxicated and just put beer in their vehicle. Police checked and the people appeared to be OK.

2:51 a.m.: A caller on Fortune Boulevard said a man in a white vehicle, at a red light, was passed out in his vehicle. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. The caller had left and headed toward Holliston.

10:22 a.m.: A tractor-trailer truck parked in the fire lane at Kmart was broken down, but needed to be moved. Police were told the truck company maintenance people were working on it.

2:16 p.m.: Hopkinton Fire Department and State Police reported a Ford Escape was on fire on I-495. Multiple callers said it was between Exits 19 and 20, on the Southbound side. The vehicle fire spread to the brush beside the road and then into the wooded area. Northborough Fire Department, covering for Hopkinton, responded as well as Milford.

3:06 p.m.: A brush fire was reported in the area of the Milford quarries, up behind Shadowbrook condominiums. Upton and Milford responded.

4:09 p.m.: A caller on Fayette Street said a vehicle was vandalized. Someone had ripped the mirrors off the vehicle.

4:21 p.m.: A mulch fire was reported in the municipal lot across from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
