Police Log: Car Crash, Jeep Fire, Domestic Assault

The following information was supplied by the Milford police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

Milford police and firefighters responded to several incidents, including a fully engulfed fire that destroyed a Jeep, and a serious crash at West Fountain and Highland streets.

Monday, Feb. 6

4:15 p.m.: A man walked in to police headquarters to report his car had just been hit by an elderly woman, at Main and Central streets, and the woman fled the scene. Police found no damage on the man's Dodge Avenger.

4:24 p.m.: A handful of change and a debit card were reported stolen from a vehicle on Sidney Road. The car owner said the door was unlocked.

4:57 p.m.: A caller on East Main Street, near the Gibbs station, reported seeing a man hitting a white SUV "with a baseball bat." Police checked the area but were unable to locate the man or the vehicle.

6:24 p.m.: A small oven fire was reported on Highland Street. Firefighters responded, but reported back that the fire was out.

7:03 p.m.: A caller reported a parked car on Congress Street was struck by a vehicle that left damage to its side mirror.

8:32 p.m.: A caller on Congress Street reported a Ford Taurus had struck a sign and fled on Congress toward Fountain Street. The street sign, for Agnes Road, was knocked down. Police checked the area, and found the vehicle, but did not immediately locate the driver.

11:16 p.m.: Firefighters responded to Courtyard by Marriott for a report of a Jeep Laredo fully engulfed. Firefighters extinguished the fire. No one was injured.

Tuesday, Feb. 7

12:14 a.m.: A caller on Carroll Street told police his 14-year-old brother had assaulted him. Police responded to the address, and following an investigation, arrested Brett N. Cronin, 20, of 41 Carroll St., Milford, on a charge of domestic assault and battery. Police are seeking a summons to charge John Nelson Vaz, 32, of 10.5 Bragg Slip, Milford, with threatening to commit a crime.

7:11 a.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Beaver Street, police are seeking a summons to charge Maria Leticia Guasco, 23, of 80 S. Bow St., Apt. 2, Milford, with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding in violation of a special regulation. The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Eclipse, was towed.

8:11 a.m.: A two-car crash was reported on West Fountain at Highland streets. At least two occupants in the cars were entrapped, and removed by firefighters. Two people were taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

8:24 a.m.: A caller on Agnes Road told police she thought she had been scammed by an asphalt company.

9:39 a.m.: A caller from Waters Corp. reported an unwanted boat trailer in the parking lot, between storage trailers owned by the company. The boat trailer had been in the lot since last September.

Bow St., Apt. 2, Milford, with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding in violation of a special regulation. The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Eclipse, was towed.

Good news! The vehicle was towed.....This is how you deal with the problem.
If you keep towing the cars that will send a message out loud and clear.
Interesting...... seeking a summons....that means she wasn't even there.
Please explain how this all happened.

Hi Jim,
My understanding is not that "seeking a summons" means the person wasn't there, the court needs to issue the final paperwork for an arrest is all it means. And the cars have probably been towed previously, I just haven't always made note of that in each entry. Don't forget, you're reading police information through my filter, it's always going to have what the reporter, whether it's me or someone else, thought was important to include. That's why we shouldn't draw assumptions based on limited information!
