Plow Truck Catches Fire, Driver Unharmed

Milford lost a $200,000 dump truck to an engine fire Tuesday. The cab was engulfed in seconds, but the driver escaped unharmed.

A Milford Highway Department worker had just enough time to grab a fire extinguisher and his wallet from the cab of his plow truck, before it was engulfed Tuesday morning.

The plow driver was not harmed. He first noticed sparks, then flames coming out of the front grill of the truck, and jumped out to investigate. He ran back to the cab. By that time, flames were coming into the interior cab, said Highway Surveyor Scott Crisafulli.

The fire started in the engine. But Crisafulli was not sure of the cause. "It's so burned up we can't tell," he said.
