Sometime in March, likely before St. Paddy's Day, patrons of the Blue Dog Sports Bar & Grille at PiNZ Entertainment won't be limited in their drink choices.

PiNZ owner David Breen was pleased today to learn that Gov. Deval Patrick signed the PiNZ Liquor License Bill, a measure brought to the state's attention when Town Meeting members approved Breen's request on Oct. 25.

"Right away, this puts PiNZ and the Blue Dog Sports Bar & Grille on the same playing field as all the other restaurants and bars in town," Breen said. "I am very excited about the transition and look forward to providing the best possible service that this town deserves."

Breen explained that for the past five years, the business had been operating under a beer and wine license, which though it allowed the sale of cordials, limited the types of drinks Blue Dog could serve.

Cities and towns are only allowed so many liquor licenses, by statute, and at the time Breen opened Blue Dog, there wasn't a full license available.

The Breen family has been associated with the PiNZ property since 1978. Blue Dog and PiNZ opened in 2006.

"Although the beer and wine (with cordials) has worked well for us, our clientele (especially our corporate clients) has been very vocal about obtaining a full liquor license," Breen said.

Lawyer Ernest Pettinari represented Breen in his quest for a new liquor license. Once selectmen supported and Town Meeting approved the creation of an additional license for PiNZ, it went to the state for approval. Breen and state Rep. John Fernandes, D-Milford, testified on behalf of the bill. Once it passed there, the Senate approved it late last week. The governor signed it today, and selectmen will schedule a hearing as the last step in the process.

Breen said he expects to start using the license between March 1 and 15. He told PiNZ fans on Twitter and Facebook to look out for an announcement and a party.
