UPDATED: Unlicensed Driver Charged in Fatal Crash

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night following a collision with a pickup truck in which he was dragged a quarter-mile, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, who fled, was arrested a few blocks away.

UPDATED: A 34-year-old faces numerous charges following his arrest in the fatal motorcycle crash, according to Milford police log records. of 10 Cherry St., Apt. 1, Milford, is charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence of liquor and numerous other offenses.

 

UPDATED: A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in Milford following a collision in which he was dragged for a quarter-mile by a pickup truck that then left the scene, police said.

The motorcyclist, , was found on Bancroft Avenue, and was taken to where he was pronounced deceased, said Milford police Sgt. Jim Heron. 

The driver of the pickup truck was apprehended by police on Lee Street. He was not injured, Heron said. Charges will be filed following completion of the investigation, Heron said.

The collision was reported at Congress and Fayette streets, where witnesses told police they saw a large pickup truck dragging a motorcyclist. The motorcycle was left on Congress Street, near the . All along West Street, numerous witnesses ran up to the truck, some pounding on it, trying to get the driver to stop, said Milford officer Jeanne Van Patten-Steiger. At least a dozen witnesses were interviewed by police.

The crash occurred at a time when many people were out in the neighborhood, or sitting on front porches. West Street is densely populated, and one of the most traveled roads in Milford.

"There were people all up and down the street," said Van Patten-Steiger said. ". . . [some] were pounding on the truck."

According to Heron, after turning on to Bancroft, from West Street, witnesses said the pickup truck driver rolled up on to a lawn, then ran over the injured man again, as he drove off.

A Milford police officer, who happened to be in the West Street area, was first on the scene and administered aid to the man, Heron said. The officer, , also works as a paramedic in Worcester, he said.

Late Saturday, a large section of West Street and a portion of Congress Street remained closed, as police continued their investigation. Providing assistance was the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Collision Reconstruction team.
