Painters finished a complete repainting of Milford Town Hall last week, from clock tower to foundation.
Two painters with Alpha Contracting Associates of Dedham began their work in early July.
Eight companies bid for the work, and Alpha Contracting submitted the low bid of $123,000. This was far below the original estimate for the repainting. Milford Town Meeting voters appropriated about $300,000 for the job over several years.

I think it looks lovely. If we don't preserve these structures, our town will be completely run down in fifty years. You may see it as a waste of money, but I think my children will appreciate it in years to come.

I'm sorry but I really don't think they will care too much if the paint is lovely or not. We are spending money in all the wrong places. We should be spending it on the kids and their futures not to make something pretty.

I'm with anonymous.. I've lived here 15 years and there have been countless roofs paint jobs and repairs... At what point do we build a municipal complex that's efficient and tax payer friendly? It feels like every year we have a 150K-500K expense for town hall. I appreciate history but when does practicality come into play?

It's our town hall and it looks great right now. To keep older buildings looking good costs money and I think it's money well spent.

It looks like the job was done considerably under budget ($177,000 under budget!). And years before the deadline. That in itself is amazing. I think it is the most beautiful building in Milford, and as the "house" we share, we should be willing to put some of our tax dollars into preserving it. It should also serve as a model to homeowners and landlords and renters--a reminder to us all to keep the place up. That actually pays off in the long run, by making Milford a welcoming and attractive place to live.
Thanks Milford Senior Man. I was about to say that I couldn't help noticing, once again, that all the negative comments so far were from aliases... But I'm glad you disproved that. Pride begins at home.

David I'm not hiding behind an alias-and Mr Berkes alias argument is getting old in an age of cyber bullies - I'm a proud resident I just sometimes wonder at what point you pull the plug...if in ten years we spend millions between town hall, MPD, and Milford fire stations, would that money be better spent in a new, efficient, building one time that would have considerably less maintenance. Other towns have done it quite successfully... We are a town that is lucky to be in PHENOMENAL financial shape- due to good choices over the years-and it seems we are dumping a large amount of $ into the building. I'm not against it just asking if its the best plan.

Sorry but a boatload of money for a football field and painting a town hall yet the high school doesn't have up to date or nearly enough books....I believe the priorities in this town are way out of whack.
