The Gibbs gas station, a dilapidated fixture at the corner of East Main and Cedar streets, was partially torn down Tuesday.

The front building, the one with the familiar sign, was taken down in a few hours by a construction crew from Camerato using an excavator.

No plans have been announced by the property owner, Vincent Cuttone, for the site. The demolition permit was taken out at Milford Town Hall on Dec. 13.

The Gibbs station was built in 1968, and closed several years ago.
