5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 27
A power lifting competition on Sunday will benefit the Milford Youth Center.
Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Donate blood today at World Gym, and you won't just be helping someone in need. You can collect a free pound of coffee from Dunkin Donuts. The blood drive is from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday.
2. Kaplansky Insurance has organized a contest on its Facebook site, which will give $5,000 to a fire department that posts a photo, and gets the most "likes" by the end of March. So far, Hopedale is the only local department to sign up. Show them your support by "liking" them.
3. Athletic Based Training in Holliston on Sunday will host the 7th annual Northeastern Regional High School and Collegiate Powerlifting Championships, featuring a fundraising effort to benefit the Milford Youth Center. Liane Blyn, the owner and an award-winning weight lifter, will donate $1 for every pound she lifts to the Youth Center.
4. Thanks to Yanks will host a free Magic Show Sunday for the children of military families. Although admission is free, people are asked to bring a donation for military care packages. For more information, see the announcement.
5. A reminder: the first Find Yourself Friday's dance of the year is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Milford Youth Center. The admission is just $3, which will be contributed toward the purchase of play equipment for the Milford Play Initiative's proposed playgound at Fino Field.
