The month of May marks one of the Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail’s very important annual tasks, the physical count of the people and ways in which they are enjoying the rail trail.
The annual count enables data-driven decision making regarding trail safety, enhancements and maintenance. The 2012 count will take place on Saturday, May 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at four points along the trail: Louisa Lake trailhead, Fino Field trail near the pool, Hopkinton trailhead and the CVS stretch along Rte 109.
Volunteers are provided with a clipboard and tally sheets where they will simply add a hash mark for each type of user on the trail; biker, walker, stroller, dog walker, wheelchair, etc. on a tally sheet that is broken out in 15 minute increments.
Each of the approximately 50 volunteers are asked to count for a 2 hour time block. If you like to people watch, counting is one of the easiest ways for lots of volunteers to give back and just about anyone can help with this non-strenuous task. You never know who you might see enjoying the trail!
Please consider volunteering by contacting the Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail at trail@milfordtrail.org or by calling 508-381-8660. Let us know a first and second choice of times and preferred location to help with the scheduling. All volunteers will be contacted by Pat Rosenthal, trail count coordinator by return email or phone.
Volunteer assignments are typically finalized a few days prior to the count. Detailed instructions are also provided in advance. Volunteers simply show up at their designated time and location on May 19. Thank you for lending your support!
