Upper Charles Trail Committee Meeting Canceled
The Milford Upper Charles Trail Committee meeting scheduled for Wed., March 2, has been canceled, but the Friends of the Upper Charles Trail will meet at 7:00 p.m. Tues., March 1, at the Senior Center, according to a written statement.
If you've wondered what the difference is between the two groups, it was explained in the statement as such:
"The Milford Upper Charles Trail Committee is appointed by the Selectmen with the directive to do all that is necessary to construct the trail including preparation of plans, design, permitting, land acquisition and secure funding from all available sources. In carrying out this directive, the Committee has the official responsibility to review contracts for Selectmen approval, administer the contracts, hold regular public meetings, and approve invoices for payment and otherwise conduct all other administrative aspects of the project.
The Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail assumes the maintenance, monitoring, and promotion of the trail along with fund raising for amenities and improvements. Once the trail construction is completed, the Committee will disband and the Friends will be the group that insures the long-term success of the project by supporting the responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Department."
The statement further noted that the project is "nearing the completion of Phase 2 construction later this summer. This will nearly double the length of the existing trail, and expand the current length on two different sides of town - one going to Hopkinton, the other to Holliston. This will open up opportunities for the community to once again step forward to help install dog clean up stations, benches, kiosks as well as monitoring and maintaining the condition of nearly 6 miles of pavement."
The statement also called for current members of the trail and past members who have not renewed to consider re-engaging.
Some agenda items for the March 1 meeting, according to the statement, include: increasing membership, filling a Director position, finding someone to maintain the updated web page, discussion of the Grand Opening ceremonies, and finding ways to fundraise for all of the new enhancements that will be needed.
"The Milford Upper Charles Trail is such a wonderful community asset and provides us all with health and recreational opportunities, " the statement said. "Please let us know if you or your organization can help keep it thriving!"
