Milford Youth Center Receives CHNA-6 Grant for Music Equipment!

The Milford Youth Center would like to thank Community Partners for Health (CHNA 6) for awarding a mini-grant to support a music program at the Milford Youth Center.

This music program will not only be able to expand our current programming during the after-school program, but will also allow us to cut the cost for a DJ for our Find Yourself Friday youth events. The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm Monday through Friday. We see over 200 youth every day, through this program and the many community and sports organizations that utilize the facility.

The Center is continuously looking for ways and funds to offer daily programs, from fitness to arts & crafts, to youth who sometimes cannot afford the same type of programming, outside the free after-school program. One of our more popular programs used be a music program that was run by a local musician and high school student, but unfortunately this program was forced to end when the volunteers could no longer commit their time or resources any longer. As a result, the youth were left without their music program and the Center was left without all the necessary equipment to play music at our monthly Find Yourself Friday events. This has forced the Center and JAG Youth Council to find ways to pay for outside DJ's for these events, an expense that we can no longer afford. With this grant we can become self-sufficient, and no longer have to rely on the equipment and expertise of others. Finally, with this equipment and programming, the youth and staff, themselves, will be able to gain the skills necessary to be our own DJ at the events!
