Milford Fire Department Firemen Patrick Evans and DJ Renaud presented the SAFE (Student Awareness Fire Education) program to Mrs. Dixon's and Mrs. Morelli's second graders at Memorial Elementary School on Nov. 16.

This was  the first of three sessions to be presented to the second graders to help teach what constitutes an emergency, how to dial 911, the basics of fire safety, how a fire starts, how smoke is produced from fire, and the hazards of smoke inhalation.

Upcoming sessions will build on these topics by teaching about smoke detectors, home escape plans, and stop, drop and roll.
